GMT-Master II Batman
Case and Material
The Rolex GMT-Master II with reference 116710BLNR, affectionately known as the “Batman,” combines a 40 mm Oyster case in stainless steel (Oystersteel) with a distinctive blue-black Cerachrom ceramic bezel. This two-tone bezel is the hallmark of this model and represents the day and night display of the second time zone. The case is water-resistant to 100 meters and offers excellent protection through the screw-down crown with Triplock sealing system.
Dial and Functions
The black dial features large, luminous Chromalight indices and hands that ensure optimal legibility. The GMT hand with a blue tip allows the wearer to read a second time zone, while the 24-hour graduation on the bezel serves for precise orientation. The watch is equipped with a date display at the 3 o’clock position, magnified by the characteristic Cyclops lens on the sapphire crystal.
Bracelet and Clasp
The watch is fitted with the robust Oyster bracelet, crafted from stainless steel and featuring the Easylink extension. This system allows for easy adjustment of the length by approximately 5 mm to provide additional comfort, especially during temperature fluctuations or long journeys.
Movement
Inside the reference 116710BLNR beats the Rolex Manufacture Calibre 3186 – a high-precision automatic movement with COSC certification (Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute). It features a Parachrom hairspring that is resistant to magnetic fields and shocks, and enables the GMT function, where the hour hand can be adjusted independently to set the local time without affecting the second time zone. The power reserve is approximately 48 hours.
History
The GMT-Master II “Batman” was introduced in 2013 and was the first GMT watch from Rolex to feature a two-tone ceramic bezel. The blue and black color combination symbolically represents day and night and enjoys great popularity among collectors. The model combines the legendary history of the GMT-Master series, originally developed for pilots, with modern technology and iconic design. The “Batman” remained in the collection until 2019, before being reintroduced with a Jubilee bracelet, which further intensified enthusiasm for the original Oyster bracelet model.
Timeless design, impeccable quality in every respect, and an annual increase in value make Rolex watches daily companions and wearable investments.
As the first hermetically sealed watch in history, the Rolex, with its often-copied Oyster case, began its triumphant march across the world, and legendary models such as the Submariner, GMT-Master, Explorer, and the classic Datejust have remained visually almost unchanged since their appearance.
Only in recent years has Rolex begun to minimally adapt to current trends in watch design and, with its sports models, exceeded the 40 mm case diameter limit.
In addition to its reputation as a status symbol and sports watch for extreme situations, the Rolex watch also holds a unique place in the hearts of watch collectors as a collector’s item.
