The Rolex Sea-Dweller
Case and Dial
The Rolex Sea-Dweller Reference 126600 is an impressive diver’s watch developed for extreme depths. The case is made of 904L stainless steel, a particularly corrosion-resistant alloy, and has a diameter of 43 mm, which gives the watch a striking presence. The unidirectional rotatable bezel is equipped with a black Cerachrom insert made of scratch-resistant ceramic, featuring a 60-minute graduation, ideal for monitoring dive and decompression times.
The dial is black and features large, easily legible hour markers and hands filled with Chromalight luminescent material. This ensures excellent readability even in dark environments. At 3 o’clock, there is a date window with a Cyclops lens for easy date reading. The scratch-resistant sapphire crystal reliably protects the dial.
Movement
Inside the Rolex Sea-Dweller Reference 126600 operates the Rolex Calibre 3235, an automatic manufacture movement entirely developed and produced by Rolex. This movement offers a power reserve of approximately 70 hours and is known for its precision and reliability. It features a paramagnetic blue Parachrom hairspring and an optimized Chronergy escapement, known for its energy efficiency and reliability. The Calibre 3235 is COSC-certified (Contrôle Officiel Suisse des Chronomètres) and also meets Rolex’s own, even stricter precision criteria.
Bracelet and Clasp
The watch comes with an Oyster bracelet made of stainless steel, known for its robustness and durability. The three-piece link bracelet is equipped with an Oysterlock safety clasp, which prevents accidental opening. Additionally, the bracelet features the Rolex Glidelock extension system, which allows for fine adjustment of the bracelet length without tools, as well as a Fliplock extension, which provides additional length to wear the watch over a diving suit.
Authenticity and Condition
The Rolex Sea-Dweller Reference 126600 is offered in excellent condition with its original box and papers. These documents confirm the authenticity and provenance of the watch, making it a valuable addition to any collection.
History
The Rolex Sea-Dweller was first introduced in 1967 and was specifically developed for professional divers. It is known for its extreme water resistance and was one of the first watches to be equipped with a helium escape valve. Reference 126600 was introduced in 2017 for the 50th anniversary of the Sea-Dweller, bringing modern improvements such as the Calibre 3235 and the larger 43 mm case size.
Timeless design, impeccable quality in every respect, and an annual increase in value make Rolex watches daily companions and wearable investments.
As the first hermetically sealed watch in history, the Rolex, with its often-copied Oyster case, began its triumphant march across the world, and legendary models such as the Submariner, GMT-Master, Explorer, and the classic Datejust have remained visually almost unchanged since their appearance.
Only in recent years has Rolex begun to minimally adapt to current trends in watch design and, with its sports models, exceeded the 40 mm case diameter limit.
In addition to its reputation as a status symbol and sports watch for extreme situations, the Rolex watch also holds a unique place in the hearts of watch collectors as a collector’s item.
