Datejust Boiler Gauge

Case and Material

The classic 36 mm stainless steel Oyster case gives the Datejust Ref. 16030 a robust yet elegant appearance. Characteristic of this reference is the fluted stainless steel bezel – a feature that clearly distinguishes it from its sister models with white gold bezels. The case is fitted with a Plexiglas crystal, which contributes to its vintage aesthetic and underscores the charm of the late 1980s.

Dial and Functions

A particular highlight of this model is the rare white “Boiler Gauge” dial. The striking, finely crafted minute markers and industrial design are reminiscent of historical pressure gauges – a detail particularly appreciated by collectors of vintage Rolex watches. The classic date display at 3 o’clock with a Cyclops lens, along with the precisely coordinated layout, give the watch a technically inspired yet elegant appearance.

Bracelet and Clasp

The watch is worn on its original stainless steel Jubilee bracelet, which, with its five-link structure, offers high wearing comfort and timeless aesthetics. The folded folding clasp features the classic Rolex crown logo and closes securely and stylishly.

Movement

Inside, the automatic Rolex Caliber 3035 operates – known for its reliability, longevity, and the quick-set date function. The movement offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours and has been certified as a chronometer – proof of this generation’s high accuracy.

Condition and Accessories

This watch dates from 1987 and belongs to the 9.5 million series. It comes with the original Rolex box and papers, making it a particularly attractive collector’s item. The case, bracelet, and dial are in very good condition with only minor signs of wear – excellently preserved for its age.

Historical Classification and Special Features

The Datejust Ref. 16030 is a classic model from the transitional period between the vintage 1600 series references and the more modern 162xx references. It combines proven design elements such as Plexiglas and the classic Oyster case with technical advancements like the Caliber 3035. The rare “Boiler Gauge” dial makes this example particularly interesting for collectors seeking a distinctive and well-documented vintage Rolex.

About Rolex

Timeless design, impeccable quality in every respect, and an annual increase in value make Rolex watches daily companions and wearable investments.

As the first hermetically sealed watch in history, the Rolex, with its often-copied Oyster case, began its triumphant march across the world, and legendary models such as the Submariner, GMT-Master, Explorer, and the classic Datejust have remained visually almost unchanged since their appearance.

Only in recent years has Rolex begun to minimally adapt to current trends in watch design and, with its sports models, exceeded the 40 mm case diameter limit.

In addition to its reputation as a status symbol and sports watch for extreme situations, the Rolex watch also holds a unique place in the hearts of watch collectors as a collector’s item.
