Case and material
The Sea-Dweller Ref. 16600’s 40 mm stainless-steel case is robust and pressure-resistant to 1,220 m (4,000 ft)—well beyond the diving depth of the classic Submariner. The case features an automatic helium escape valve at 9 o’clock to equalize pressure differences during saturation dives. The bezel is unidirectional and fitted with a black bezel insert.

Dial and functions
The deep-black dial with white luminous hour markers and Mercedes hands offers excellent legibility under water. The date display is positioned at 3 o’clock—traditionally on the Sea-Dweller without a Cyclops lens.

Movement
Inside is the reliable automatic Calibre 3135, a COSC-certified chronometer with approx. 48 hours of power reserve and a date function.

Bracelet
The stainless-steel Oyster bracelet with Fliplock safety folding clasp and diver’s extension ensures a secure fit, even over a wetsuit.

Condition and accessories
The watch dates from 2002 and is delivered with the original box and papers. It is in very good condition.

For many years, the Sea-Dweller 16600 was the top model among Rolex dive watches. Compared to the Submariner, it stands out with higher pressure resistance and professional features such as the helium escape valve and the absence of a Cyclops lens—a deliberate design choice for clear visibility under extreme conditions. This reference was produced from the late 1980s until 2008 and now enjoys collector status. The 2002 version is a sought-after classic for enthusiasts of understated professional tool watches.
