The Rolex Milgauss Reference 116400

The Rolex Milgauss reference 116400 is an exceptional model, specifically developed for the needs of scientists and technicians exposed to strong magnetic fields. This 2019 specimen features a white dial and the distinctive hallmark of the Milgauss series – the orange lightning bolt hand. This striking design component refers to the roots of the Milgauss, first introduced in 1956 as a watch for professionals in laboratories or power plants.

Case and Material
The 40 mm stainless steel case protects the movement from magnetic fields up to 1,000 gauss. This is achieved by an inner soft-iron Faraday cage acting as a barrier against magnetic fields. The watch is also equipped with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal featuring a slight green shimmer at the edges, developed specifically for this model. The crystal gives the timepiece a unique character, as it is found exclusively in Milgauss models.

Dial and Details
The white dial provides the perfect contrast to the bright orange lightning bolt seconds hand. The hour markers are filled with Chromalight luminescent material, ensuring excellent legibility even in low light conditions. The orange accent is repeated in the minute markers and the “Milgauss” lettering, making the design unique and striking.

Bracelet and Clasp
The stainless steel Oyster bracelet is equipped with an Oysterlock safety folding clasp, which is both robust and comfortable on the wrist. The bracelet contributes to the sporty-elegant aesthetic of the Milgauss and ensures high stability and wearing comfort.

Movement
Inside the reference 116400 beats the Rolex caliber 3131, a self-winding mechanical movement specifically developed for the requirements of the Milgauss. It is equipped with a paramagnetic Parachrom hairspring and other anti-magnetic components, ensuring the watch’s precision is maintained even in magnetic environments. This movement offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours and meets the strict requirements of a chronometer, as certified by the independent Swiss testing institute COSC.

History and Significance
The Rolex Milgauss line has always been known for its technical sophistication, making the watch resistant to magnetic fields. The model with the orange lightning bolt hand and white dial has become a popular model for collectors due to its striking design and the combination of science and aesthetics. Reference 116400 offers a successful blend of technical innovation and iconic Rolex aesthetics, making it an extraordinary timepiece.

About Rolex

Timeless design, impeccable quality in every respect, and an annual increase in value make Rolex watches daily companions and wearable investments.

As the first hermetically sealed watch in history, the Rolex, with its often-copied Oyster case, began its triumphant march across the world, and legendary models such as the Submariner, GMT-Master, Explorer, and the classic Datejust have remained visually almost unchanged since their appearance.

Only in recent years has Rolex begun to minimally adapt to current trends in watch design and, with its sports models, exceeded the 40 mm case diameter limit.

In addition to its reputation as a status symbol and sports watch for extreme situations, the Rolex watch also holds a unique place in the hearts of watch collectors as a collector’s item.
